One Hundred Happy Days

Posted in Uncategorized

Hello, everyone! I’m trying to pick up this blogging thing once again, mostly because there will be future releases coming soon and well, promotion and all that. It needs to be done, whether we authors like it or not. So hi you, reading this! I’m happy I reached you!

The title of this post is One Hundred Happy Days, because today, on July 10th of 2016, I started a new #100happydays challenge. What is this, you ask? Well, I’m trying to put it as simply as I can, bear with me:

For 100 days, you take a photo each day of something that brought you happiness that day. It can be literally anything, it’s up to you, because you’re doing this for yourself, not for anyone else. When you have your photo, you post it online somewhere, like Facebook or Instagram, maybe Twitter. Whatever you might like best, more or less. I, myself, crosspost to Instagram and Facebook.

You need to tag your photo each day with #100happydays and the number of the day, i.e. #day1. This is just so anyone following (and you!) can see them easier. In case you want to do it all in private, go ahead, skip the tagging, don’t even post your photos online, just take one and do whatever works for you, like put them in a folder in your phone or your computer to track your project.

I did this two years ago and I found that it brought me a better understanding of what kind of happiness there was in my life. I don’t consider myself a happy person, with constant depression it’s tricky to anyway, but even a pretty flower spotted somewhere, a pet acting goofy, seeing a movie or something other everyday thing would make it to my list and I’d feel better. Finding happiness in the ordinary is amazing. Being consciously looking for it, or realizing when it’s right in front of you makes a difference. Trust me on this.

The picture on this post is my #day1. It’s a random photo I took today from my parents’ yard that is oh so green this time of year. Happiness in small things, for sure.

That said, I have a new novel coming out within a month! There’s a cover reveal and a giveaway going on at Love Bytes, so please do check that out and maybe win a book!

It's Alive!

Posted in Uncategorized

Hello people!

So yes, I’m alive and kicking, still! Surprise, right? At least if you don’t follow me in social media, that is. If you just read this blog it would totally seem like I’ve quit on everything two years ago.

That might actually be sort of the truth, if I really think about it.

It wasn’t really that I quit writing on purpose. It’s just that my depression swept over me like the effing tsunami it can be, and I gradually realized I wasn’t writing anymore.

There have been several tries to write blog posts that had never got uploaded or even finished, thoughts on hosting a giveaway here and there (I think I did one some time ago, but that was on my Facebook.)

I’ve failed the whole “marketing myself” bit, and right now if you’re friends with me on Facebook, you mostly see puppy pictures, because I’m getting a new puppy in two weeks, yay! (FAIL. Promo wise. I know. Otherwise, quite cute.)

So what have I been up to lately? Or like, in the last two years when I’ve not posted here… Oops.

Well, there’s this short story I wrote last summer for Dreamspinner’s Daily Dose. It’s called Up to Boil, and it’s a May/December blue collar kind of thing. That’s literally the only thing I’ve had out there since Solitude. It did felt good to have something released out in the wild (from the constraints of my head, haha), though. So yay for that!

Right now I’m in the middle of trying to make a deadline for their States of Love submission call. The deadline is in a few days and I’m pretty sure I’ll make it. My state is Colorado, by the way, and it’s a story with a weird kind of structure, but more about that when it actually has a release date.

The really good news, though? I’ve signed a contract for a novel that’ll be out sometime in August/September. It’s a story about a “horse whisperer” who takes one last job to heal a horse, and ends up healing the rider, too. And maybe, possibly, they heal him a bit right back…? The theme of this story is largely about family, as my stories tend to, but another theme is depression. I hope I’m doing it justice, because it would suck to not be able to with the extensive “research” on the matter I’ve done most of my adult life. *insert wry laughter here*

So that’s about it, folks. Oh, and if you want a free copy of Up to Boil, message me on Facebook and I’ll see what I can do (for the first three people, at least. ;) )

Positive - Out Now! And a…

Posted in Releases

Hi, everyone!

It’s the Day After for Positive. That means yesterday was the release date, and I’m now biting my nails, waiting for reactions from the readers.

That said, I’ve gotten this question a few times now, and I think it’s best to address it here:

“Is Positive M/M/M?”

The short and true answer is no, Positive is NOT an M/M/M book. It has one scene of M/M/M and while some readers will definitely see that as coming out of the blue or lending nothing to the plot or even “being there for the smut”, it’s not there for those reasons.

The threesome my established couple in the book has is there for a reason. Because Brent and Shawn wanted to have a threesome. Because they could do it without it changing their relationship. They wanted to, both for their own reasons. I actually tried to fight the characters, I tried NOT to write the scene. They insisted they wanted and needed it. So I caved in.

I never write sex for the sake of sex, so that’s definitely not the case. This M/M/M scene is there for personal growth and want.

Oh and by the way, if you want to ‘Like’ me on Facebook, it’s now possible. You don’t have to friend me anymore. ;) If you ‘Like’ me, I promise to make some nice giveaways happen for special landmarks.

I’m also on Authorgraph now, so if you want anything signed, let me know!

I hope your end of summer is turning into the beginning of fall smoothly. Autumn is my favorite season, so I’m happy!

Hop Against Homophobia an…

Posted in blog hops

So here I am, doing my first Blog Hop on May 17th, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. I decided to finally be brave and do one because of the  cause that’s so dear to my heart.

Why? Because not only am I part of the community (which ever combination of letters you prefer to use), but I know people who are struggling with their identity, other people’s reactions to them, and the general obstacles we, the non-binary, not straight people face pretty much daily in one way or another.

Despite living in a country where things are relatively good, Finland doesn’t have same sex marriage or adoption rights yet. We’re working on it, and the general climate for this sort of thing seems to be getting better every day. And until that, there’s always same sex civil partnership here, so that’s a plus for sure.

I’ve encountered homophobia and I continue facing it almost daily from someone in my immediate family. The little remarks about “fags” get to me more than I’d like to admit, let alone the transphobic comments that are, luckily, less frequent, mostly because transpeople aren’t on their radar…. Would I come out to them as a genderqueer pansexual? I’m 32 this month and… no. I think I’ll leave that private for now, because back in my teens when I started to identify as a lesbian I took enough of their phobic comments and learned my lesson.

Sometimes, for me personally, it’s not about the fight, it’s about making sure my little sister who is now 15 knows the difference between what this person in our family says and what’s right. So far I’m doing okay, because I can see the variety of friends my sister has, and it’s certainly not straight or narrow! :)

I also decided to do this Hop for promotion, of course. Because what’s more fun than to do a giveaway? Mhmm… thought you’d agree with me on that. :)

I’ll get to what you can win and how in a little bit. First, here’s the link to the Hop’s official page. You should go visit and check out the other blogs that are doing the hop. It’s a great way to support the cause, find new authors, and naturally win some prizes!

Okay, fine, let’s get to it!

What you can win:

  • any one (1) of my already published novels in paperback form
  • a quaranteed paperback of my next novel release “Tainted” that will be out in Aug/Sept at some point.
  • any one (1) eBook from my back catalogue

How can you win?

Well that’s easy! Comment on this post and answer this question:  When was the last time you encountered homophobia or transphobia in your life? There’s no need to explain the situation, I’m just curious about when it was. If you’re a straight ally, tell me anyway, because we all face these situations, no matter who and what we are.

I’ll pick THREE WINNERS no later than May 28th, and I’ll let you guys choose what prize you want, one by one. Also, remember to leave your email address for me to be able to contact you, otherwise you automatically disqualify!

There’s a bonus, too! You can now use the code CB46C during the blog hop to get my short story Rainbows and Trout for free on Smashwords!

Win books for Valentine's…

Posted in Uncategorized

So it’s that time of the year again. What time? Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. Now, here in Finland it’s called “friendship day” and revolves around friends and not lovers. Not that it makes me feel any better about being single, haha.

This year I’m taking part in our lovely Babes’, M.J and Piper’s Lovefest. I’m donating several audiobooks and all in all there’s a HUGE amount of books up for grabs. I mean look at it, the winner can choose 5 books! Seriously! That’s a treat any day!

So head up there to take a closer look on what you need to do. It’s pretty simple, just comment on the master post there and you’re in.

As for that status update. Well I have something cookin’, so to speak. I’m writing a story, don’t know how long it will be, but at least a long novella on the Dreamspinner Press standards. Maybe even a novel, who knows.

I’ll try and get some sort of a preview together for you guys at some point. I’ve promised to send it to Dreamspinner in the next month or two, so you might just get the book in your hands sometime this summer, if we’re lucky.

Yes, I’m working again. Slowly but surely. The depression is still there but I’m a bit better. Thanks for all the supportive comments I’ve gotten over these past, super difficult months. I appreciate them more than you’ll ever know!

Falling into Place Releas…

Posted in Releases

So today’s the day. Finally my third novel Falling into Place is out!

Today also marks the end of NaNoWriMo which I failed spectacularly, but I don’t care, much. At least I wrote something! I have plenty of stuff to work on if/when I have the energy and the muses to do so.

There’s also a chance for you to win a signed paperback (and possibly an eBook) at Piper and MJ’s blog! So click here and go comment on the post!

I’m excited to hear what you think about the book, so please send me an email or something once you’ve read it. Or just go and review or rate it on Goodreads, Amazon and the like!

News and stuff

Posted in Uncategorized

Damn I’m good with blog post headlines…

A few things: First of all, I’m in the process of editing one freebie short story (will be out at some point through Dreamspinner Press, I’ll keep you posted) and Finnshifters 2 that now has a brand new title!

Finnshifters 2 was supposed to be called, or rather its working title was, Moving On. Then another book named Moving On was released by DSP last month (I think) and I had to come up with a new name for FS2.

The new name is Tiglon by the Tail. I love the name and I wouldn’t have come up with it without some help from the editorial department, so thanks! Also, the release date is in September, which day, I don’t know yet.

Secondly, I’m going to start the process of having a new website done! It will be easier to update (thank you for everyone who hasn’t emailed me about the lack of updates on my current site…) and it will look really good, I bet. Can’t wait to see what AngstyG comes up with!

Thirdly, on August 4th, next Saturday, I’ll be hosting a Facebook chat on Dreamspinner’s Facebook page. Now, a bunch of stuff will be happening there, but there will be giveaways and even a paperback giveaway (signed and delivered to you wherever you live!) So keep an eye out!

Fourthly (this is getting silly…) in September, there will be an event in Brighton called UK GLBTQ Fiction Meet and I’ll be attending with plenty of other authors. So in case you’re in Brighton on September 15th, please do come meet us!

That’s about it for now!

Countdown to Technically …

Posted in Uncategorized

Hello, everyone!

I thought, since Technically Dead is out soon (on the 20th), I’d do a little countdown for you all.

I might be mostly talking about the music of Technically Dead, but I will probably share a lot of other things too, like the faces I see when I think of the characters and things that influenced the story.

And on the day of the release, I’ll also be giving away one eBook copy of the book, so you might want to keep an eye on this countdown to learn how you’re eligible for the “contest”, which won’t really be contest at all. ^^

So let us begin.

As I said, music. Many of my stories have a song or a few I associate with them or the events, characters or places, even scenes. So far only my novels have playlists, though.

There’s a post somewhere in this blog about the playlist of By Any Other Name, in case you’re interested. Just follow the tags.

Technically Dead has even a longer soundtrack, an I keep adding to it occasionally. The latest two additions are Bring Me To Life by Evanescence and Shady by Adam Lambert. Here are the videos for you, I won’t spoil who or what I associate the songs with, though. You can read the book and figure it out yourself! :)

I thought I’d share some of the other songs too, but these I can tell you more about… ;)
Just as By Any Other Name’s “main theme” was Ghosts of Days Gone By by Alter Bridge, there’s one “main them” for Technically Dead as well. This is it:

I love Three Days Grace in general, but when I had just started to write Technically Dead, it hit me that Lost in You was the perfect song for the novel.

Of course I may “see” these songs differently than most readers will, but they’re still very strongly “Technically Dead’s songs”.

Hmm… what next? Well, the funniest thing that I can find from the “soundtrack” is this… :)

Trust me, even when I was writing the book and this song came up as an addition to the soundtrack, I aimed a “really?” at Bran. He insisted. So here it is, Teenage Dream by Katy Perry. I think, even though Bran has never said it, that it represents the naive teenager Bran was when he first met Heath.

As I was writing Bran doing everyday mundane things, like walking from one place to another or working in his office, he was whistling this song in my head a lot.

Moves Like Jagger has been my “earworm” for a long time and apparently I gave it to Bran at some point. However, it doesn’t annoy him like it annoys me sometimes, go figure. Yes, writers are a bit odd like that… Nobody ever claimed we were sane… ^^

When I poked at Heath in my head and asked him if he liked contemporary music, he said that he didn’t mind it, but that he rarely found any that he truly liked. When I pressed on, he managed to come up with one song that he absolutely loves, but the smile that he gave me was a bit sad, and if you listen to this, you’ll know why.

That’s about it for today! Because there are almost thirty songs in this list of mine, I’ll share with you the Spotify-link to it. Click here to see more. If you don’t have Spotify and there’s interest, I’ll write them all down and make a post or you can email me and ask about the songs if you want.

Tomorrow is all about places and faces, I believe… So see you!

Heads Up!

Posted in Uncategorized

Okay, since I have so many stories coming up like right now or soon, I’m planning on holding a little contest this spring.

Actually it might be a big contest, since it will have some nice prizes, after all. And I totally mean nice on my scale. I’m talking about free ebooks of my three releases (Lucky, Something New, and Thank My Lucky Scars), maybe a small gift card for an eBook store of your choice, some swag… That sort of thing.

So, keep your eyes glued to this space, people! Soon enough you’ll have some information and possibly some neat prizes!

That said, Something New is out today and you can already find it from the Dreamspinner Press store and at least All Romance Ebooks and later from Amazon and all the other places DSP novellas usually are sold.
